First of all, sorry for the huge break. Things have been getting a little hectic around here with the school year coming to an end. Sometimes it's nice to wind down with some fashion, and often times, labels who's usual eccentricity you expect surprise you with a subdued collection, that seems just as strong as their usual efforts. That is certainly the case in
Comme des Garcons' Fall 2009/2010 collection.
Quite a departure from the past three seasons, we saw
Rei Kawakubo return to a more muted colour
palette, much like Fall 2007/2008. In place of blacks and strong reds and pinks, we saw a overall neutral collection.
Kawakubo used a lot of utilitarian and army greens, muted browns and
beiges, and pops of black and white, and cobalt blue. Most inspiring was her used of translucent creme, in tulle leggings and slips, that instead of lying under the garments, were slipped on top, like a thin membrane.
The most prominent theme seems to be blanket dressing. There were several looks that consisted of
over sized capes made of army green
twills, or
houndstooths, or fleecy fabrics that
resembled blankets.
They were not only worn as capes, but placed under some overcoats, that were as short as the
bust and as long on as the waist, with slits up the side to let the wraps underneath move freely. There was a strong sense of nomadic dressing, a theme that has been riffed upon more then a bit this season, but perhaps looks most-at-home in
Comme des Garcons' eccentric fashion warriors.
